Ted C. Grooms, CPA
Mr. Grooms graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1975 with a bachelor of science degree in accounting. He started his accounting career with McGladrey, Hansen, Dunn and Company (now McGladrey & Pullen, LLC), in Iowa City, IA.
In 1977, he moved back to Wyoming and joined the CPA firm of Bailey, Robirds, Nichols and Associates in Powell as a supervisor. Then, in 1979, he moved to Casper to join the national CPA firm of Fox and Company as a manager. In 1982, he opened his own firm in Casper, and, in January of 1999, he merged his practice with Charles R. Harkins, CPA, to form Grooms & Harkins, P.C.
Mr. Grooms’ audit clients have included irrigation districts, highway contractors, financial institutions, public oil and gas limited partnerships, and not-for-profit agencies. He also provides accounting services, tax planning and preparation, financial and estate planning, and business management consulting services.
Mr. Grooms received his CPA certificate in 1975. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Wyoming Society of Certified Public Accountants. He is past president of the Kiwanis Club of Casper and is currently on the board of elders. He is also past chairman of the board of trustees for First Christian Church in Casper.
Charles R. Harkins, CPA
Mr. Harkins earned his bachelor of science degree from the University of Wyoming in 1975. He then joined the Denver accounting firm Ernst and Whinney (now Ernst and Young) as a member of their audit staff. His responsibilities included planning, supervising, and reviewing audits of large, publicly held corporations, non-profit entities, national insurance companies, and government entities.
In 1980, Mr. Harkins joined Fox and Company in Casper as audit coordinator and, in 1983, opened his own firm in Casper. His audit clients have included non-profit corporations, church districts, local government entities, water and sewer districts, and other for-profit corporations.
In January of 1999, he merged his practice with Ted C. Grooms, CPA, P.C., to form Grooms & Harkins, P.C. Mr. Harkins earned his CPA certificate in 1975. He is a member of the Wyoming Society of CPAs and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is past chairman of the Wyoming Society of Certified Public Accountants Public Relations Committee.
Mr. Harkins is also a member of the finance committee of the Diocese of Cheyenne and is a member of the finance council of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Casper. He serves as a board member on the St. Anthony’s Tri-Parish School Foundation.
Deanna R. Pickering, CPA, PFS
Ms. Pickering is a Wyoming native from the Casper area. She earned her bachelor of science degree in accounting from the University of Wyoming in 1994. She began her career with McGladrey and Pullen, LLC in Casper, WY, where she worked primarily on governmental and not-for-profit audits.
In 1997, she joined the firm of Ted C. Grooms, CPA, P.C. and expanded her practice to include tax and estate planning. In January of 1999, Ted C. Grooms, CPA, P.C. merged practices with Charles R. Harkins, CPA, to form the accounting firm Grooms & Harkins, P.C.
During 2002, she earned her Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) designation and has added financial planning to the services she provides her clients. On June 1, 2002, she was admitted as a shareholder in Grooms & Harkins, P.C. In 2005, Ms. Pickering formed Pathfinder Investment Advisors, LLC to provide comprehensive financial planning for Grooms & Harkins clients.
Ms. Pickering is licensed to provide securities, annuities, life, and long-term care insurance. Combined with her experience in corporate and individual tax, estate planning, and her audit background, she is able to provide comprehensive planning support to Grooms & Harkins clients.
Ms. Pickering is a member of the Wyoming Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and is past president of the Central Wyoming Chapter of CPAs. Currently, she is the treasurer for the Blue Envelope Health Fund, as well as the Casper Area Chamber of Commerce. She has served as an officer in Toastmasters Pioneer 97 and was involved in organizing the American Cancer Society’s annual Relay for Life for many years. Ms. Pickering is also active in Highland Park Community Church, and is currently serving on the church’s Board of Finance
